Who Are You Blaming?

As believers, I hear a lot of us (myself included), blame God for a lot of things. Maybe we don’t come out and say “God I blame you for…fill in the blank,” however our actions are speaking louder than our words at times.

Listen, I know that sometimes life gets hard and we find ourselves in what seems to a hopeless situation. We want out of the pit that we’ve found ourselves in whether it be a bad report from the doctor, a husband or wife with a wandering eye, a child misbehaving, a loved one passing away, infertility, whatever it may be. Life gets VERY hard at times and almost seems unbearable. It is so easy for us to just say “well, this is God’s fault and become angry and bitter.” If we are not careful we will start this toxic thought process and once it starts, it is very hard to stop.

May I submit something to you? There is another part of the equation here. God does not cause death, hurt, pain, or failure. The enemy does. We need to start reminding ourselves in those moments when we want to get angry with God for how things are going in our lives that we do NOT fight a battle of flesh and blood “…but against the rulers, and powers of darkness.” The devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy the very good plan that God has for your life. The good news? HE HAS ALREADY OVERCOME THE WORLD. TAKE HEART.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 NIV

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  John 10:10 NIV

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV

Christ never promised it would be easy, but he did promise that it would be worth it. Let your struggle, your fear, your anger, be surrendered to Jesus and instead of asking him WHY ask him WHAT.

A prayer for today to help you through your struggles:

Dear God,

I’m hurting. I don’t understand what it is that is going on in this situation but I am bringing it to you. What do you want to do with this God? It is bigger than me and clearly you are the one who sees the whole picture and not just what I am seeing now. Take it….it’s too big for me, I claim peace and love over my life and in this situation today. Thank you for reminding me that I am more than a conquerer in you and that because you love me you are making all things work together for my good. I stand on this promise today and I ask God that every moment today that my situation comes to mind and hopelessness comes flooding in, that you Lord will replace it with the love, joy, and peace that you promise. In your name – Amen.
